Browsing older posts and noticed someone mentioned the surprise of other walkers when he produced a bottle of wine. I've been using these for car-based camping http://oneplanetwine.com/range/ - from the cellar door or occasionally much more cheaply from Graysonline. The white freezes very well if one's freezer is cold enough - my chest freezer works, the freezer part of the fridge doesn't. Disappointingly I can't see their 250mL size any more - of course, that was perfect for an overnighter.

Am I missing something here? What is the purpose of freezing wine?

I assume its so that the white wine is cold when it comes to drinky time.

True, but if I'm hooning around in the camper I like as much frozen stuff as possible in the esky. Usualy thaws early but stays cold.. Baldivis and Element used to have PET 750mLs, they were good but discontinued (available in Europe....) . Meanwhile, back at Grays http://www.graysonline.com/lot/0064-241 ... syrah-2008 . I like McLaren Vale, and - for the environmentalists - not irrigated from the Murray or murrimbidgee....

I used to freeze a can or two of beer carry them in with me and at the end of a long hot days walk a nice icy cold beer was just fantastic (you had to give the other one away - or be throttled to within an inch of your life).
Cans were good as the bottom expanded out when frozen and they did not pop.
Though they did freeze back up when the pressure was released if you did not let them thaw to just the right temperature.

I use a platy preserve bladder. I am sure it could be frozen, but if it is hot, I will dump it in the creek/river/ocean to cool off.

Port or muscat is my preferred choice of camping drink.

More and more of it is irrigated with recycled water from wastewater plants...
