I am regularly asked why my food load is so much lower now for LW overnighters , so what do others carry and why ??

For a one nighter:

1st Lunch:
Pizza (3 or 4 pieces) - cause it's nice!
plus LeRice or yoghurt or fresh fruit for 'desert' - cause it's nice!

M & M's & Glucose for extra energy, plus mixed fruit (mostly sultanas) to fill a hole between meals.

Dinner:
Cuppa Soup - I like Continental Tomatoe & Bacon best but tomato will do - cause it's nice and it's easy!
Something nice like Sweet & sour chicken. (like the real stuff with real rice, fresh chicken and a jar of KanTong - not FD) - cause it's nice!
Creamed Rice out of a can for desert - cause it's nice and it's easy.

Supper:
Maybe toasted marshmellows on the Kovea.

Breakfast:
Usually corn flakes or nutrigrain with proper milk (not powdered) - because it's easy and nice!
Toasted english muffins with jam and honey - cause they are nice.
(or if I'm going all out then maybe Eggs & bacon instead)

2nd Lunch:
Tortillas with Safcol Premium Salmon stuff in the foil pouches - cause it's nice, packs easy and lasts.

If it's more than one night then I try to be a bit more lightweight and have something easier for Dinner like noodles or freeze dried something (that doesn't require me to carry a fry pan). I still have the soup but may have rice or macoroni with sugar and milk for desert instead of the the canned creamed rice, but it takes heaps of gas to cook. Or I do do freeze dried deserts sometimes, sorta need to carry fresh cream to go with them though, which defeats the purpose.

I can't see any weight savings possible really :wink:

What about you Corvus? Of all the people I know you are the king of lightweight food!

120g, 2000kj. And they're small, so good for pack weight. I'm taking them for lunch... at least until I get sick of them! ;)

Can't beat bircher muesli or Oats for brekkie. I soak them in water overnight.

The other thing I've carried before which is good value for weight is some vanilla weight-gain powder a mate gave me. It's loaded with carbs and protein (more than you need for walking, but anyway). It's a little hard to get to dissolve without a blender though, I found it soaked in with my muesli okay. Once I run out of the bag I was given for free I wont me replacing it out of my own pocket though, not when it's over $50 per kilo.

Oh yeah, couscous is a winner too, not particularly filling though, but if I follow it up with a Mars Bar for dessert I reckon that's more than enough calories! ;)

A few years back one of a party of three said he would take the first nights dinner. It was three cheese pasta, complete. A 750gm fruit cake. Already made custard. Chocolate. And port. His pack was neearly four kilos lighter after just one meal. We all felt well and truly fed. I am sure I gained about a kilo in weight that night.

Also, How do I get back to normal font????? And how did I get it to look like this  :shock:

salami cheese and rye. even better when you can heat one or all of the ingredients (ie. a stuffed pita pocket) although year, if it was just an overnighter, I would prefer to lighten the gear and not skimp on some luxury tucker...

Where do you get the "safcol Premium Salmon stuff in the foil pouches" ? My local Foodland and Woolworths don't seem to stock it anymore

I haven't bought any for a few months, last time it was at Coles. Maybe it's been discontinued?

BTW. Desert is now sometimes those little pre-made chocolate self saucing puddings. Supposed to be 'nuked' i think, but sticking it in boiling water and simmering for 10 minutes (still in the plastic & foil container) works a treat. Add lots of cream and it makes a great dessert. Kinda hard to pack the open carton of cream for the second night though.

saw the safcol salmon pouch in at woolies the other day, so its still avail... just, as with everything non woolworths/coles branded, it is prob slowly dissapearing off the shelves across the country... can anyone say 'monopoly'?

Maybe someone else has seen the Safcol tuna pouches. Personally a few dried peaches and a chocolate bar does me for dessert.

Actually it's a duopoly, so it's all good apparently :roll: Telstra however is a monopoly, but thats all good too apparently :roll: Roll on the mighty NBN I say :D Shame we won't be able to download cheap groceries direct from the farmers/manufacturers :( :lol:
