Memory map HOLUX funtrek GPS review

Yeap MemoryMap' instructions as supplied are very average. Not to sure but is appears a lot of my issues are due to a failed install. I had downloaded it to look at it and appears that the supplied installer was not smart enough to handle this on the PC.

At the moment can not say honestly what I think of the product apart from it is a shambles of interface designs. Hopefully support will sort out the pc install issue.

As for the Holux the jury is not exactly singing it's praises. But time will tell if it is a worthy device to carry. So far it has a few issues but they could be me. It is very hard to work out where the Holux stops and MemoryMaps start.

As for the screen. It is the smallest on screen keyboard I have never seen. If you are past forty it is becoming rather unusable.

Cheers

The drama continues. I found that Memory-Map on my PC would not scroll across the 1:250,000 Australia wide maps if they are in a separate file. The maps are split into areas. It appears that the pcinstall program failed from the SD card. Likey because Memory-Maps was installed from a download off the web previously to the laptop. I am awaiting resolution of that problem from Memory-Maps.

Also Memory-Map is re-downloading the maps when I select a particular map file, This brought to light another issue. The maps downloaded from the internet are higher quality than the ones provided on the SD card. It could be that the maps were compressed to fit on the smaller than claimed sized SD card or maybe compressed to deal with limitations of the Holux, I have no idea why. Regardless of the reason the maps on the SD card are noticeably poorer quality than can be obtained by direct download from their website.

I have emailed Memory-Map requesting that I be provided with the size card that the packaging claims (8GB) and the same quality maps that are downloadable from their website. Also that they provide instructions how to install the above on my laptop as their installer on the SD card appears to have failed.

I hope that they do the above as at the moment it is a dog breakfast.
