ah, but Its not the size, it's what you do with them that counts

I was interested to read in the DPReview article on the Olympus that the image quality between it and an APS-C camera is so close that it is practically irrelevant and the only way to gain a real IQ advantage is to move up to full frame...

if they were bushwalkers I think they may actaullly change their minds and think ah an APS-C camera is heavy enough without carting a full frame camera and it's lenses around......

Not so much the weight, but the cost. My quote for moving into MF is above $70K.

$70k, hell now i dont feel half as bad when i fork out a grand on a camera...
mind you if i made a living from photography, i'd be going full frame...

The terminology can be confusing. Take a Nikon D700 camera, a "full frame" digital SLR. There's a massive difference between "full frame" and "medium format".
The D700 is what, 12.1 megapixels or something like that. And the new cream of the crop in 35mm DSLR's, the D800 at 36.3 megapixels.
Or Medium Format, with a much larger sensor and capable of (depending on the back) up to 80 megapixels, with, I should add, a lot more going for it in the way of image quality than merely megapixels.
But, at a huge cost, and I am far from earning a living with photography. But it is fun!
