Seems aa very sensible approach. A temporary ban until they can work out the best way to handle the issue.
Must be fairly large craft to be causing so many issues: noise, disturbing wildlife . . . might be interesting to have one follow Tim's next nude bushwalk . . .

Drones are all the rage these days and the crafts aren't particularly large, carrying GoPro or similar movie cameras. They are battery operated but do make noises and are intrusive in the air, particularly around tourist spots and landmarks.

We already have laws here for the larger drones, we're using them at work (small enough to fit on a lunch room table) and you need a license to fly them.
The current crop of laws go a fair way back actually:
http://www.casa.gov.au/scripts/nc.dll?W ... c=PARTS101Some micro UAVs are pretty loud, fortunately they don't have much range and I can't see people taking them hiking. Car accessible camp grounds could be an issue though.
The larger flying wings and other UAVs (think Aerosonde) have fantastic potential for SAR and conservation.

Not to mention extremely cheap out of China.

In the future I can see people wanting to do things like take their
AirDog with them on the Overland track so they can get some heroic footage of themselves.

This thread has inspired me to charge my quadcopter and fly it around the lounge room. Who cares if its only 10cm across. Great fun

Take it to the outdoors and let the wind take it! I remain surprised how airworthy they are. Would have thought they'd be crashing like crazy with anything more than a light breeze.

This one really struggles in the slightest of breezes.

This just showed up on my news feed:
http://m.aljazeera.com/story/201462023033920199Looks like the big drones have a bit of trouble too.
Sun 22 Jun, 2014 7:47 pm
30-odd crashes a year for manned aircraft and another 30-odd unmanned across 13 years.expensive and dangerous. At least the pilots are safe for the drones.

Pretty sure there's a photo of a drone at Hansons Peak (Cradle Mt) on here from May. Must admit I was intrigued (once I figured out what it was.. was finally convinced the buzz was coming from my pack..). The chopper weighed a kg, fit in a backpack and would carry a digital camera out of sight. I watched as it was sent over the lake and high up the face of Smithies Peak. Apparently if it did go out of sight it had a return to base feature.
While I had visions of a bigger version and quick release for payload - It's a no from me.

I think big drones yes, personal ones no.
