Website hosting

I am almost ready to upload the website/journal I have been creating to document our NZ tramp...last year!
The root folder is close to 200Mb just for the Routeburn Track (and this is about 1/3 of the website).
Some questions:
1) Can anyone recommend any good hosting solutions.
2) I want to add a comments section to the bottom of each of my pages...does anyone have any good recommendations for this?
thanks,
Cassie.

Hi Cassie,
200mb seems a lot. Have you optimised your photos for web display?
For that sort of size, you might check out dreamhost:
http://www.dreamhost.com/ as most isp hosting in Australia is limited to 10mb or so, and extra capacity is usually expensive.

I'll second the motion for dreamhost. BWT is hosted there. The bang per buck is excellent. They have 'one click installs' for blog software (and a variety of other software), which may suit you if you want to use that for your content as well as your comments.

I just noticed that I never ever replied to this. That is because I left the page open for a week (who turns their computer off?) with good intentions.
Months later I am finally signing up to the host mentioned above...and going to go optimise my images for the web.
Thanks for the advice.

Do I need to choose the unique IP address option in order to point a domain name at my site?

I've never seen that option, but I'm sure I don't have a unique IP address for any of my sites.

No
See
http://www.dreamhost.com/hosting-features.html#dnsBasically you just need to tell your domain name registrar (assuming it is not dreamhost) to use those DNS (Domain Name Service) servers that are specified in that link.
The unique IP option is not actually static, meaning that it wouldn't give you a fixed address to point your website to anyway.

I've been using Dreamhost for some time now, and I am also very happy with them.
HERE'S A LINK to follow if you want to check them out. They even have a free trial.
Unlimited storage, unlimited bandwidth, lots of other things. And even more affordable now that the Australian dollar is kicking goals.
I just renewed mine again, signed up for 3 years this time which made it even cheaper.
