An interesting article, (including pictures) New Scientist (Edn: 2729) discusses the use of memory chips to replace CMOS sensors. The promise is gigapixel cameras in ultra small format and even mobile phones with huge pixel density.

Interesting. Perhaps one step closer to that fast, cheap, ultra compact, D-SLR image quality, superzoom, waterproof, shockproof, full manual and automatic operation, massive to minute aperture, lightweight camera with cinema quality full HD video recording capabilities and built in GPS, smartphone and PLB? :D

Yeah dual 1TB microSDHC's should do it and don't forget an AA battery sized fusion reactor to power it :D

They look the goods, but I think they're UV erasable PROMs aren't they?

Yeah, they're EPROM's (erasable, programmable, read only memory). I was just having some fun.
