An interesting article, (including pictures) New Scientist (Edn: 2729) discusses the use of memory chips to replace CMOS sensors. The promise is gigapixel cameras in ultra small format and even mobile phones with huge pixel density.

They look the goods, but I think they're UV erasable PROMs aren't they?
