Recommendation of a Web Blog for a big trip?

Wed 15 Dec, 2021 8:41 am

I have a friend who is embarking on an extended remote area expedition.

I'm interested in setting up a web page or blog so that friends and family can keep track of progress. Its been a long time since I have done any web pages.

Is there a simple templated blog solution which can handle track logging off a Garmin Inreach plus a text update every few days?

Facebook would be the easiest and it's free. Create a page for the walk and provide a link to the Garmin tracking page, you can share public or private to a group of people. Otherwise Wordpress is popular, bit of a learning curve to setup but easier enough to use once setup.

Wordpress.com has a free hosted option (you'll pay for a custom domain name and increased hosting space) and is very simple to use, has a huge plugin library to cover almost every want imaginable and is by far the better option for blog-style sites. You can also self-host for free if you have server space available and the savvy to config yourself (not really difficult).

Squarespace, Tilda.cc etc are good paid alternatives but honestly are better geared more towards business/photography than blogging.

Thanks for the responses crollsurf and headwerkn. Turns out our brave adventurer doesnt want a blog, as they prefer to fly under the radar and think a blog could jinx the trip. Thanks a heap for your advice though :) .
