Solar position

I just found a nifty app for the iPhone called sun seeker ... Useful for finding out the direction in which the sun will rise.

It calculates the Solar Path for your current location and shows it on the display with hourly intervals. It also has an augmented reality view. You need an iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4 for this view. U could use this in an unfamiliar area the day before to determine a good vantage point for setting up for sunrise shots.

Any others apps (on iPhone, android as appropriate) for this? Are they any good?

The further you get from the equator, the greater the variance left or right of "east" the sun will be on the horizon when it first appears, depending on the time of year (longest vs shortest day).
It's quite significant here in Tassie, and there are only a few days a year when the sun will rise at such a position so as to shine through our dining room window, through our kitchen, through our laundry, and illuminate the wall in our toilet if someone left the doors open. Seems I need an iPhone and a compass to work out which days! :D

Just an iPhone 4 will do it. Sunseeker aligns its display according to the compass, so you can line it all up from the one gadget.

I think you need the pay version to select a different date though.
