The winner is clearly a seascape in a landscape competition, scandal !!! ;) Great shot Pteropus a fine winner :)

Do you think we need another category?

That was tongue in cheek wasn't it ? ?
But as was remarked last time - people vote how they vote.

I had thought this was a bit more artistic though - specially with the decorative pieces in it.
But pteropus missed out last time with some fine shots in various categories as well - so fair's fair.

Yes, tongue firmly in my cheek! I think it is great to see everybodies interpretations of the new categories as it throws up some very interesting photos. The new comps set up definitely broadens the scope. I don't think we need to add on any more categories :)

Hahaha thanks doogs, I wondered if the photo was appropriate for "landscape"...but if you look real close, the mainland is on the horizon somewhere across the bay, and I was standing on the land too
I did actually wonder how it would go with all those man-made decorations though...however, a bit of scrap metal does seem to enhance a pretty sunset!

by the way doogs, I thought your photo of Mt Ossa?? was a very clever idea...which i might just steal when I get down to the Overland Track sometime in the future (in the thievin' spirit of Ned Kelly)

Hey Pteropus, a very nice shot!
I struggle to get things balanced so nicely at that time of day, particularly retaining the colour/detail you have in the foreground err I mean water. I like the wrecks too but I bet you would have liked that motor boat to move over!

Can't believe I climbed Mt Rugby and couldn't take a winning shot(says about my skills with a camera i think).... :(

Thanks Stepbystep. I took several shots and though the boat was not in all of them, i think that all the elements were in the right place for this photo. I often have a problem with getting the horizon level...and I dont have fancy processing software to fix it, just the basic Canon software that came with the camera. Most of my other shots of the Wrecks had sloping horizons so this one made the cut....
Sbs, your shot over Bathurst Harbour is great. 9 votes says you took a great shot. However, I did vote for my own in this “landscape” comp and in the “Other states” comp too, but not in the “non-landscape” comp this time as i liked another’s photo better. I wonder how many vote for their own photos?

Hi Pteropus, This one of my pet hates but I can often fix it by doing a simple rotate and crop. Basic software that comes with operating systems (eg WIndows Picture Manager), or camera software will often do it.

Congratulations on an excellent photo by the way :). I forecast it being a likely winner as soon as I saw it. The competitions are attracting some really nice shots. Great work everyone :).

Nothing wrong with your Mt Rugby shot Dan. Maybe we need another category for most challenging photo to acquire .

Hey John, thanks, I had no idea that Windows Picture Manager could do that until you said so! I had thought it only rotated it 90° at a time, or flipped it. The Canon software I use is a little dated and does not allow slight adjustments in alignment. Sometime down the track I might even get Light Room or Photoshop...

I mentioned my issue of non-straight horizons with a friend who is a professional photographer, and she said the mirror might be slightly out of alignment with the sensor. Consequently, no matter how long one spends trying to get the horizon perfect, it might always be on an angle...but I am not really one to blame my tools though

If you don't want Photoshop elements ($100 in Aus, $49.95 in US Grrr) there is an opensource (free) alternative called Gimp that you could try

Yes, I also have The Gimp. Well worth downloading. A bit of a steep learning curve to get the most out of it, but not too difficult to use if you take the time to play around with it (I'm still trying to decipher a lot of the functionality). For a freebie it's an absolute gem :).
