Yup. As well as my DSLR I carry a panasonic LX5 as a crappy weather, whip out of the pocket, quick snap camera. I also use it for it's great macro ability.

Even though i rarely carry an SLR now, I find the waterproof compact in the top pocket gets a lot of use where the other one wouldn't. (Not sure i picked the best one in the Nikon AW100). I have few if any shots from some more challenging walks when i just took my SLR, which is a shame.

I keep intending to pull out the GoPro and set it up for stills for just this purpose, given how changeable our weather is. One more thing to get around to when I find a little motivation . . .

I carry a DSLR in my pack and have a Sony RX100 in a small case attached to my shoulder strap. It's so handy I barely have to stop if I see something that catches my attention. I only off pack and disgorge the DSLR/tripod if I see something extra special (or I'm at camp). Neither the camera or case are waterproof but I simply put it in my raincoat pocket if it starts raining to keep it handy.

As for the RX100 I think it's been said just about everywhere on the internet, and here on this forum, that it's an incredibly competent little camera. It's not as user friendly as a DSLR but it's image quality is superb, with super sharp and noise free images up to and including iso800. There's a surprising amount of latitude in the raw files too if you like to do some post processing on your images.

RX100 (m3 now, yay) and XPeria Z1 (waterproof phone).

They make a good pair funnily enough.

Waterproof Lumix on my shoulder strap too. So easy to take pics. Stop, rip it out, fire off a few, whack it back in and keep walking.
