Hi
Does anyone know of a good fast camera repair place?

Preferably in Hobart but ...
My Nikon 105mm Macro has lost its auto focus and I need it by 13 Oct. It was fine last time I used it but dead now. Its not the body as other lenses are working fine.

I know a camera tech here in Adelaide, but not Hobart.
I'm sure you've checked the switch and cleaned the contacts but just thought I'd mention it...
Hope it works out!

I see they're still there, was ages ago but I used Walsh Optics a couple of times:

I've checked the contacts, all clean and looking fine, switch is behaving as it should - moves as expected between M/A and M. I think the circuit (?) or whatever is broken as the vibration reduction doesn't function either. It did get a bit of a jolt a few weeks ago but it was working after that when I checked it....
Walsh Optics are no longer listed in the Yellow/White pages and the only Walsh records are residential. I have found a replacement on line - new and $1200 - I'll ring a repairer in Melb and see if they have any hope of getting it, fixing it and returning it to me in time. Michael, what's the contact number for the Adelaide tech?
Else I'll have a manual only spare......

Remember that if you need a specific lens and you shoot nikon or Canon there are plenty of hire places around. That might save you some money if it can be repaired but not in time.

Ok. Repairer advises lens works perfectly on all cameras tested. Took camera body in today - had checked other lenses on it with apparent success - no AF or VR functioning from camera body. camera left for checking.
Maybe I'll just lash out and buy that new camera body after all.......

I found a strange combination of settings that managed to block all AF from the body - obviously after I tried a different lens - so it is all functioning now. But I bought a new camera anyway
