G'Day All
Its been a while since i have been on but i have a question about the OT.
I have walked it twice before and now i am taking my 11 year old daughter in april. My question is about pack security in the cradle mountain area. I know the normal go is to ditch your pack at the trail heads for the summits but i am a bit worried about the day trippers in the area helping themselves. Not only would i want to go wolf creek on some wicked van but it would ruin our trip. I have climbed cradle before as a day trip but i dint want to make her do the climb to the plateu twice. So what i'm after is does any one know of any instances of theft (by humans) in the area
Thanks
Darren

Not heard of any dramas for a long time, I wouldn't leave them in Kitchen Hut though. Off in the scrub out of sight if really worried perhaps?

If you're worried about valuables then I would suggest getting a little foldup day pack and taking it with you up the mountains with valuables etc in it. Little daypacks like that are also really great for first aid equipment, lunch, warm woolies etc.

I do use an ultrasil daypack for summits to carry essentials, But valuables to me are a sleeping bag or 6 days of food, my wallet and phone dont count for much on this trip
Thanks

I understand :) Wouldn't expect day trippers to be after food, but you never know!

Would be rather bad to get back from Cradle and find out you're unable to continue the Overland!
