Mt Shaula

Postby tibboh » Sat 16 Feb, 2013 9:22 am

For various reasons on a recent A-K traverse of the Western Arthurs, the only named peak we missed was Mt Shaula.
Can anyone shed some light on the easiest route out to Shaula?
Chapman made no mention of it in his SW Tas book and the first part of the walk out near the Bumps looks pretty steep and scrubby.
There was a point in a saddle just to the east of the Dragon which felt like a good spot, or is a drop down off the Dragon following the ridge strait to the saddle better?

I also missed just this one on my first trip through the WA's...mostly due to time constraints.
We went back in a few years ago and based at Haven Lake for 2 nights, doing Shaula as a fairly easy day trip. Yes, the point you speak of from the low saddle is the place to go from. Send me a pm if you want more specific details and/or some photos. Great little peak, being quite detached it offers some unique views.

Thanks Stu. A few more details would be great even though I probably wont get back till next year.
Haven Lake based daywalk was my thought as well. Cheers.
