There is "drier" whisky of course. Cask strength, for example. We didn't have that. We brought a Kentucky bourbon and a Tennessee Whiskey which are 45% and 40% respectively. Lots of water. Really good tasting strong whisky tends to be expensive and I'd hate to decant that into PET bottles.
As for the fruit, the Forager Fruits were kind of duds in our opinions. We had some of their freeze-dried fruit juice flavored apples and some of their blueberries. I don't really care for freeze-dried apples that much and the added fruit juices just made them seem unnatural. Plus they rapidly reduced to a sugary dust as time went on. I never even finished the small amount I brought. The blueberries were a bit woody and lacking in flavor. I ate them simply to dispose of them.
The real winners were the freeze-dried whole strawberries (with 2% added sugar) we found at City Organics. They were wonderful, nearly as good as fresh strawberries. Seriously. I was wishing I'd packed more. We brought eight packages of those strawberries back home with us.
I wish there were a relatively easy way to do home freeze-drying.
