Mt barney vs the Arthurs

Postby farkewie » Tue 11 Jan, 2011 8:00 am

Hi guys,

Looking at planning the southwest walk (e-w arthurs, port davey, sct)

Trying to get an idea on the Arthur's terrain anyone here completed both Logan's ridge (mt barney, Qld) and the Arthur's ) ? I would love a comparison.

Sorry for any typos Im on my phone:-)

Hard to compare a major undertaking like that with a Barney day walk. But in terms of technical difficulty, there wouldnt be anything on that trip (Fedders summit aside) that would be more challenging than Logans ridge. Of course, with most Barney trips though you just have a day pack.

Hi Thanks for the reply.

I'm aware of the day walk vs the 22 day walk thing I was more worried about the technical side of things. I can *&^%$#@! and train my ability to endure multiple days of it.

PS: When i did logans I had a VERY heavy overnight pack :-) I was "new" and got on to the wrong ridge...

Also farkewie, if you're aware of Robert Rankin ( wilderness photographer/publisher), in his book Classic Wild Walks he has a grading system for trips. He grades Barney via Logans or Leaning as 5 ; Western Arthurs traverse as 4 and Eastern Arthurs traverse as 4 ( Fedders summit 5 ).
Sounds like a great trip and if you can cope with Logans and a heavy pack I'm sure you'll be alright.

Thank for the extra info. I would not say coped with Logan's and a overnight pack, but survived. Barney will be my training ground for the walk though. as far as techncal hard days go anyways.
