depends on what you have and what you know
parks pass... shelter food bag mat.... there are some gear lists here on the site you can use and adapt.... i'll have to check where - unless someone knows in the meantime?

Liamy77,
Only thing I don't have from those lists is sunnies, but I do have a wide brimmed hat.
Good check lists!
Thank you.

Weather report - how many spare days have you allowed? - looks like some rain coming, maybe a touch of snow on Sunday.

HI eggs,
We've allowed for 3 bad weather days out of 15.
(Lots of side trips planned, could probably miss some if forced to! :( )

Just walked the full traverse two weeks ago. 36 hours in the tent at High Moor - but I didn't have a book! Take a good book.

Watch for small rodents a Cygnus, on two different occassions I have had gear chewed, once it was the floor of my tent. Remote gear did a good job of repairing my Microlight.
A good book or some type of entertainment(crossword puzzles for me) for the tent is a must, unless you are into meditation. I have had 3 trips and spent a rest day stuck in the tent on all 3 trips.
Platforms are good but watch out if there is very heavy rain( which seems to be the only type you get on the WAs) as it hits the timber and bounces up under your tent fly.
Enjoy it , its the best walk in Tassie.

Easily the best walk in Tassie.

And that tip is a very very good one. Tent platforms are not only horribly uncomfortable and bad to sleep on, if it rains your tent gets much wetter than it would normally.
Nothing to see here.

Are you taking a handful of cup hooks to help get the perfect pitch for your tent on the platforms? (The wires aren't always in the best possible place).

Hi all,

Running a bit short on time, so excuse me if I reply to you all in one post:

Jellybean,
Got the camera, spare batteries, spare memory card. Got the cuphooks. Still trying to figure out how the kilo of chocolate fits in with light weigh philosophy!

Nuts,
Have been reading here that there have been 'buggy tummies' down there recently. So lots of imodium, got the steripen etc.
Is 'gastroeze' the same sort of thing as imodium???

Graham 51,
Have a few pages of sudoko puzzles, mini packet of cards, but most importantly I will have my beautiful man with me!!!! :D :D

Norts,
Hope the new Nallo stands up to the weather (might have to give the tent platforms a miss if forced to, as for rodents...errrrrh!)

ILUVSWTAS,
Think I've said it before, but will say it again, it was your photos that initially sparked my interest in the Arthurs. Thank you!

Lizzy,
Surely we could smuggle you in somehow?
I'm working on my 'toughen up princess' mantra at the moment! (I don't do 'lifts out', never!)

Thanks everyone, if I've missed anyone out, sincere apologies,
Melinda :D :D :D

Umbrella, at least for going to the toilet.

Nice thick soft sleeping mat for the hard boards.

Have fun.

Hi James,
They all laughed at me when I took an umbrella on the OT last year. It was incredibly handy.
Somehow I don't think I'll be taking it on this trip. Think packweight is going to be sort of important.
However, I was send a shewee to try recently!

You just reminded me to pack it. I think I was supposed to practice.. . We'll see!

I think that comes in under the "There are exceptions to every rule clause" ... or possibly the "essentials for big days" clause!

Good to hear you have the Steripen! (and I'm sure you have: back up batteries - you also tend to get longer life if you store the batteries outside the Steripen in between use, even though it's a bit fiddly; and some tablets as a back-up back up; and a small bottle of sanitising hand gel).

Please say Hi to DT!

Hi Melinda - I'm with all the others who are both effusive (best walk in Tassie) and jealous (wish I could come). I didn't notice anyone mentioning rope. A few metres of rope would be handy for pack-hauling. Have a great trip :D

Cheers

Hi whynotwalk,
Rope for pack hauling is part of the group gear!
I seem to have so much!!!!!
Maybe I need to ask in another post 'What do I have that I don't need????????' :?
I so understand when people say,
...jealous (wish I could come)

I guess we all frequently feel like that when we hear about the great things that other people are doing.
Not really jealous, more like, '....me too, me too!'
Gee, I even get upset when I can't be on two great walks at the same time!

Bring an extra jumper.
Cold weather most of next week on the way.

It's funny North Northwest always says Tassie manages to turn on it's worst weather when she's here, and she gets here today :)

Tassie might turn on it's worst weather for NNW, but it turns it's best weather on for me!
Hopefully between us we end up with something average!

Anytime now you should be sitting in a tent hearing the patter of raindrops and thinking "That's what I forgot!" :)

Not very nice down here at the moment... wet as all get out, I've even got the gas heater on. Wouldn't like to down the SW this weekend!
