In January 1998 I hiked the Western Arthurs. On top of Federation Peak there was a book in a metal box and I signed it, as did all my group. For sentimental reasons I would really love to get a copy of that page with the comments. The Parks Dept say it was there as part of a public hiking group initiative, not theirs as their books are at the start and finish for signing in and out. I was hoping someone reading this might know where those books got archived?

Not sure about now, but in the Tasmanian Tramp (Hobart Walking Club publication) I have read about them installing and removing log books and spreadsheeting the data etc. They would have copies of many I think, but maybe not the newer ones. Walking clubs are probably your best bet anyway.

You should also consider checking the State Library - this is the best repository for such documents. I would like to see the entries for 1970-1 when I did Federation with a mate, (Tahune, South Pictons, Moss Ridge, Federation, Eastern Arthurs, Western Arthurs, Mount Anne - only saw 2 other parties in the WAs - aah the joys of air drops).
