Status of 'remote' huts at Mt Field?

Sun 31 Mar, 2013 1:57 pm

I usually miss something in my searches - please refer me if I have.

I'm assuming (thanks Binder) that because of fire codes, the huts (ie not the 'government huts') at Mt Field are still 'for day use and emergencies only'.

I'm wondering, should I ever be in such a position, which huts would I prefer to have an emergency at? (Not at Lake Newdgate, i gather). Are any locked? Which ones have loos?

Also, any advice re nice campsites?

Thanks

I've stayed at Newdegate/Belcher/Twilight and K-Col Huts before I invested in a tent :) They're all pretty crappy to sleep in with K-Col being the best despite being freezing. Twilight hut is a really cool spot to visit though. From memory that's the only one with a loo. There is good camping near all of them except Belcher I can't remember. There's some nice spots near Lake Belton and up on the Florentine Plateau.

Cool. Thanks Liz. I might be able to convince my friend to come. :)

Can someone take a new log book to Twilight Tarn in their travels?

Old one is over full.
