Fire Mapping - Old Fires

Sat 11 Jan, 2014 1:17 pm

is there such a resource as a map with where big old fires have been? For example there was a big fire East of PB in 1939 I think. So I am looking to locate the areas and dates of these big old fires.

I have come across a lot of areas where clearly there was a key fire in the past (burnt King Billy pines are the usual give away that it was a significant fire in the area) and tried to consider when the fire was by the level of re-growth. So far I have figured my reckoning is so way out I need to look at some real data instead of forests on the ground.

Its certainly around but what format were you looking for? I think a lot was compiled by Dr Jon Marsden-Smedley for his many fire projects. Not sure if its public domain but I would contact him in the first instance.
