Transport into Walls Of Jerusalem

Wed 15 Jan, 2014 9:06 pm

Hi all, not sure if this is a odd request or not but I thought I would throw it out there.

A friend and I are doing our first trip around Tasmania, which the feature of the trip will be a 5 day trek into Walls Of Jerusalem and around the Central Plateau.

I am bringing my car over on the Spirit and have concerns regarding the regularly reported vandalism/robbery in entry point carparks of the national park.

Considering we are spending a week after the trek travelling around Tasmania, the last thing I want is firstly to be constantly concerned about my car being broken into and emptied out, trashed or stolen while I am in the Walls. Secondly, if it does happen, to be spending the rest of the trip with a broken window, trashed car (and then having to through the hassles of repairs when I am back in Vic).

So I'm putting out a call for help to anyone that could either potentially offer a lift in/out to any of the entry points to the walls, or can suggest a friend or service that can assist. Of course, we are happy to pay a fare for the assistance.

Feel free to PM me,

Thanks and regards, Chris.

The people responsible for these break-ins were caught a number of years ago now, so I'm led to believe.

Thanks Strider, that is somewhat reassuring to hear but the concern still exists right now. When one bad apple is removed from the barrel there is always another one rotting away somewhere.

I definitely had no issues when there a few weeks ago, and will be up that way again next week without any concerns.

Hi Chris,

I have been there a few times lately and there are always plenty of cars in the car park. Like Strider said I don't think people are having the issues that were reported in the past however if you are worried I could give you a lift in and out if it coincides with my days off.

what's safety like at Lake Ada end (track)?

I've come back to my car at the walls car park to find my car OK but several others with smashed windows. I can only guess that the reason I've been spared is because I left nothing of value (or even questionable) visible in the car, and left the glove box empty and open.

This was a few years ago, though. It used to be very common back then at the Walls and Frenchman's Cap car parks. I've not heard of any problems at either, recently.

Lake Ada is normally safe, never heard of any bother there.

I suspect anyone doing the track to Lake Ada would have more on their minds than vandalizing other vehichles

Thanks for the replies thus far, level of concern somewhat dropping. Unfortunately we won't be able to empty out our car as well will be packed for remainder of our trip on the 'flatlands'.

Lake Ada is our planned entry point, what were you referring to with your reply Corvus?

Cheers, Chris

Metghinks Corvus would be referring to trout fishing or walking or a combination of the two.

And Lake Ada is a little more out of the way.

It depends on timing, but I might be able to help with a ride into Ada - I want to get back up there for another walk myself. No promises, but pm me with the likely dates and we'll see.

Ditto with the help .. given dates times
Could leave you car around the back of the pub .. or even at the old P&W station (someone is living there I believe) .. on the road into Ada .. so should be able to thumb a ride the last bit of way ... plenty of fisho traffice this time of the year .. especially in the am
Few options I guess .. with some security

Thanks all for the information, replies and PM's. I have been dormant in replies within this help thread for a few days due to being away from home the last week and not having the time to have a proper read/response. Pm's replied to/being sent. I'll probably post our rough walking itinerary up in a separate thread for some feedback and idea's as well as suggested by a forum member.

Thanks again!

I spent three days in the walls earlier this week. There were at least 15 cars in the main carpark upon our return on Wednesday.

One thing to note. I saw a Tassie Devil other week at Ada and my experience has been they like boots, packs, food etc

They invaded my tent whilst asleep many years ago at Siloam and made a real mess.
Thankfully I always tie my boots together and to something solid in the tent and they just tried to get them outside, but the pack they pulled outside and tore a hole in it and pulled everything out.
Now Devils are in decline, but they are also still about, so need to be mindful of their possible antics.
I know possums can be a menace, but Devils!!
