I'm currently printing a book at work about European influences on the Tarkine area. I am not sure how much I should write about it, given it is still being printed and I am not sure if the book is going on sale to the public or just to be used in libraries or anything like that.
But, it looks like the author has spent a great much of time sifting through old newspapers, journals, old books and other documents and pulled the key points out and summarised them quite nicely into one easy to navigate book. I have not read it all, but it has all areas covered, most of it from the 1850's to the 1920's, but there are older and newer info too. From transport, hunting, bushwalking (pedestrianism), stock movements, mining and lots more, it is extremely interesting, with great old pictures too.
If I find out where the book is going to end up, i'll let anyone here know, if interested, how to get hold of one!

The book has finally been launched here.

Apparently the book is available from the Council for $45. So it isn't a bad price for a book that has a lot of info about lots of things!.

The author, Nic Haygarth, is a very good historian and any of his books are worth reading. My favourite is 'A View to Cradle' but he has quite a few others. I'll be getting one, it will be well researched and a wealth of information.
