TARKINE RAINFOREST HIKE

We are keen to do a multi-day hike through the Tarkine rainforest self-guided this January but would love to chat with someone who has done it. We are experienced hikers with the Dusky Track (NZ Fiordland), Overland track, Wilderness track (Victoria), South Coast Track (Tassie) Mt Kosiosko etc under our belts over the last five years. Any advice about reading material or personal experience and advice would be very much appreciated! :)

Hey 'melindaisland' it's kinda tricky up there. The only multi-day tracked rainforest walk is run by Tarkine Trails. They have negotiated with mining companies, private landholders and forestry over years to establish a route that they have had to move due to changing land tenure issues. I'd encourage you to contact them and explain how you wish to do your walk and they may be helpful...other than that planning your own adventure might be the go...

However!! Before the end of the year a new guide book entitled 'Tarkine Trails' will be released. It has several suggestions and good maps that I reckon you will find useful. I've seen the proof copy, but don't have a personal copy yet, it's currently at the designers. Keep an eye out for it.

It's supposed to be ready for sale by the start of December. It's been put together by the Bob Brown Foundation. A re-write of Bob's original guide book from 30 years ago. I started a thread a while back, I'll update there when more news comes through...
