Richea Creek Track (Lake Rhona)

Fri 18 Dec, 2015 7:10 pm

Anyone been in to Rhona or surrounds recently? Is the road in clear and free of fallen trees? Heading in on Boxing Day, hoping not to be on clearing duty again. Thanks in advance.
Stu.

A friend of mine was there last weekend, and I've heard of no access issues. I will ask her and let you know.

G'day all

The access road to the Richea Creek / Lake Rhona track is open to vehicles. There is still a few heads of trees lying on the road but can be driven around no problem.
Don't forget to check the weather before you head in for any predicted major rainfall, as the Gordon has a habit of coming up behind people. Also carry an extra night or two's food.If you are stuck on the western side, it is a good move to camp back on the button grass while you wait it out, as camping on the bank has seen people trapped when the river has broken its banks behind them. It's also easier for the helicopter to see you if you are in the open.

Cheers

Thanks Binder.
We were caught out last year en route to Wylds / Shakespeare with a lot of fallen trees, extended the length of our day substantially.

We waited for 2 days for the Gordon to subside last summer, abandoning a Spires trip and going to the Arthur's instead...hopefully better luck this year.

Yes, will have extra food, but hard to predict river levels coming back from 12 days out so fingers crossed!

Thanks for the response, appreciate it :-)

It's *&%$#! wet down there at the moment. Hope the river doesn't catch you again. Levels were rising quickly this morning and it hasn't even been raining all that hard.
