Access to Walls of Jerusalem via central plateau?

Mon 19 Sep, 2016 11:45 am

Hi everyone,

I know the road will possibly be sorted by Christmas but I am interested in alternate routes via the central plateau to the WoJ?

Anyone been in this way recently?

Cheers, Erin

Hi Erin,

You can walk in from Lake Augusta area - through the Great Pine Tier area.
Or from Lake Mackenzie - over Turrana Heights.

We've been through the Great Pine area from the walls and Turrana Heights area from Lake Augusta (not since it was burnt).
But not a through trip. A couple of days to walk it.

Easy navigation in fine weather. probably talk to Stu.

Regards

Azza

You can walk in from almost anywhere on the CP, but Augusta/Ada are the best starting points. Route depends on how long you have. Very easy to do a loop from that area.

From Lake Mackenzie - not since it was burnt... was what I meant.

I am going into the Walls of Jerusalem late October via Higgs track to Lake Nameless and Ritter's route from there to Zion Vale. This is not unused, and there are notes on the track if you search. I've never been into that area of the Central Plateau myself, so I'm unsure what to expect, but reports of the route over the years indicate it's not difficult to navigate as long as one keeps to high ground.

Haven't been this way in 10 years or so but I'm not sure about the "keeping to the high ground" statement. That route undulates... quite frankly it's all high ground and easy to lose the route, especially when clagged in. If you're skilled with nav you shouldn't have any problem but don't rely on being able to stick to the route.

Agree. In via Mackenzie & Blue Peaks is one of the more scenic approaches as well.
