Frenchmans cap

Hi all,
Hoping to connect with some experienced tassie bush walkers here -I need some advice for my next trip.
I live in Qld and have been visiting tassie for the last 3 winters, taking in the Overland, Walls of J, and a heap of shorter tracks in the Cradle mountain area. Always solo.
This year I'm thinking Frenchmans cap. Then Cynthia bay to the labyrinth /Acropolis (as i didn't get to these whilst at Pine valley). I'm hoping to be there late May.

I'm wondering if Frenchmans might be a bit full on at that time of year.

Another area I'm thinking about is Mt Field east. Could that be an alternative?
I've got about a week or so to play, so could do a few shorter walks or biggy if there's is one worth doing.

Would love to hear any thoughts or suggestions.

Frenchman's Cap should be ok. The climb to the summit can be iced up, at least early in the day, so maybe take some boot cleats or be prepared to skip it.

Not sure how the works are going on the Frenchman’s track. I think the hut at Tahune may be off limits.

The hut opened easter weekend. They had 30 visitors that weekend and there were 14 cars in the carpark midweek.

A good overnight (could stretch it out to two nights) is the Freycinet Peninsula Circuit. Walk to Mount Amos, across Wineglass Bay, Mounts Graham and Freycinet down to Cooks Beach (camp overnight), on to Bryan’s Beach and then back to Wineglass Bay car park via Hazards Beach. Guessing but 30 - 35 km. Only issue is water on the track between Wingeglass Bay car park and Cooks Beach.
Nice walk, scenery is beautiful and, if you are fortunate, a spectacular sunrise at Cooks Beach looking across Great Oysrer Bay.

Hi,

I am wondering if the tent platforms at Tahune and Vera support setup of a tunnel tent. We are taking a Macpac Olympus.

We are also heading into the Walls of Jerusalem. Wondering the same thing there.

You can set up just about anything there, although you might want a little bit of cord or some cup hooks for those tiedowns that don't quite reach the nails and other attachment points on the platforms. Some are better equipped than others.
There are also a couple of tentsites down by the lake, and the one over the edge of the helipad. Not platforms, just good, old fashioned dirt.

The platforms at Wild Dog Creek in the Walls have good guy wire setups so you can get away without pegs. Also in a pinch you can jam a stick between the planks and hook onto that (ask me how I know!).
