Fedders over the New Year

Tue 13 Oct, 2009 9:04 pm

Planning a trip to fedders sometime after Xmas/Early New Year.
Just wondering how busy is it likely to be at this time of year??

A group of us did Feds from Farmhouse creek / Moss Ridge late last year (19-23 December, ie. 5 days).
We ran into a party of 6 on their return from the EA traverse near Cracroft (day 1).
We ran into 1 solo walker on Moss Ridge (day 2) who ended up joining our party for the duration of the trip + saw another couple at Bechervaise (day 2), tho they moved on along the Eastern Arthurs traverse the next day. The only other party we saw was a group of 2 as we were nearly back at Farmhouse Creek (day 5).
As we went before the Xmas-NY period it was probably a lot quiter, i'd expect there to be more parties than this during that period as (nearly) everyone has holidays then, particularly after Xmas.
If you can I'd suggest going in a couple of days before Xmas to beat the crowds.
Good luck, it's amazing country down there :D

We did it around the middle of February and we saw about 13 people over the 9 days we were there, including about 4 on the arthur plains, and two others on the summit. So expect more than that I'd say.

Did an overnighter from Farhouse Creek Thursday/Friday, a lot of trees down over the track and with all the rain erosion around tree roots looks to be pretty bad, with some good lashings of mud for some fun :D
Hopefully PWS will get in there to clean a few things up, otherwise day 1 will be a bit harder than you may have expected, it was for me
BTW - the last group through returned on the 11/10, they must have had a hell of a trip!
Cheers, sbs

About an hour past Lake Sydney track junction, it was a bit of a recce for me, as I hadn't been to FC before. I took a heavy pack as 'training' for other longer walks - ended up like a turtle twice :D

Beeper - told parks Friday arvo - said someone might head out next week for a look.
