Galaxias

Wed 04 Nov, 2009 8:05 am

Galaxias the fish. Many years ago I picked up a double sided brochure on Tassie Galaxias 1 side of which has side views of the different (15 off) species that may be found in Tas. Now I still have the chart but am starting to look for more info. A web search does pull up some data here and there but mostly on 1 species at a time to suit the website's focus. I cannot rember the source of the original fact sheet.

Where is the source of knowledge on Galaxias in Tas?

You could try the Inland Fisheries web site here:

There was a publication on all of Tasmania's freshwater fish years ago. Museum? University maybe?

Some are listed under the Threatened Species Protection Act, see the DPIPWE website http://www.dpiw.tas.gov.au/inter.nsf/We ... 8E2VD?open. There is a booklet that has all the freshwater fish in Tasmania by Wayne Fulton (fauna of Tasmania booklet no. 7), it wouldn't be too hard to track down.

Thanks BarryJ, a very useful link.

scrub boy, another good link but actaully one of the sites that lead me to look for more info. The booklet sounds liek the right direction, I'll start looking for it.

Yeah I'm pretty sure the Uni put out a freshwater fish of Tasmania booklet, I'm pretty sure I bought a copy when I was there it was only $15-20 or something like that but not sure if they sell to the public or just students.

Yep, the uni has published books on a range of animal groups from Tassie, including one on freshwater fish. Can be bought straight from the School of Zoology or from a few bookshops around town. All the info you need is right here:
