Stumps Track - Western Tiers

On a recent walk up the Smoko Creek Track to Mother Cummings Peak I noticed a track marked "Stumps Track" branching off to the left shortly after a clearing. It was marked with red and white painted discs which appeared to be in good condition so presumably relatively new. Does anyone know where the track heads and who might have marked it? There is also another similarly marked track called "Valley Track" which fairly obviously (once we got further up the mountain and had a decent view) leads to a pleasant looking valley below the peak. I think there is at least one fairly active walking group in the Deloraine area so thought it might be them.

The name most likely is after Stump Jordan, an old mountain bushman who has a lake named after him as well, a couple of k's from Lake Augusta.

We noticed this same marker on our walk up there yesterday and I would be interested in knowing the answer also. If anyone is interested I took a photo of the marker which I can upload.

I noticed a track off to the left (west!) heading up to Smoko Falls. From memory only a few hundred metres above the crossing to the track that takes you to the old car park at the start of the Chasm Falls track. There is a very large log crossing the river at this point but the track was not marked in any way at the time. I am keen to see a photo of the marker BR.

The following is an image of the 'Wacky Wanderers' from Deloraine near No Name Falls. Have caught up with them a few times. They can be contacted through the Great Western Tiers Visitors Centre. They walked every Tuesday at the time.

Yesterday we also discovered the commencment of Stumps Track and have a photo of the marker
However we are not certian how to upload the photo of the marker onto this site.
Does anyone know where this track leads too? Roseart

OK, that's hard to miss. Just look out for the person sitting on the log eating lunch, and turn off there!

Opps not only did I take the picture of the lovely person having lunch
I also took her home
I guess that means if you looking for her at the commencement of Stumps Track
you will have a hard time finding just where that person has disappeared too.
However here are some directions that might be helpful in locating this track:
you commence following the old logging track to Smoko Falls & Mother Cummins Peak etc
after about 1 km you reach what I beleive is the old car park beforethe bridge was washed out
In this area there is a sign board is( & the walking tracks commence here)
it directs you off to the right to go to Smoko Falls & Mother Cummins Peak
well from that sign heading towards Smoko Falls
I reckon it is no further than 200 - maybe 250 meters along the track
on the left hand side just a bit off the track.
It is fairly easily to see as there is not much bush around it.
- hopefully that helps you locate the sign
without trying to find the lovely person having lunch

So is anyone from the Launceston Walking Club going to tell us what you find if you head up Stumps Track.
They spent a lot of time up there on Saturday, so it must be interesting. Or the track is so overgrown they took all day and got nowhere.
