Arthurs Traverse

Heyo.

A group of three of us are heading off to do the Arthurs Traverse, starting Scotts Peak on the 27th Dec, finishing Farmhouse Creek by the 10th of Jan (hopefully with some sidetrips - Lake Sydney, if the weather is good, Vanishing Falls, if the weather and our going is particularly good).

We'll be car shuffling, dropping one off at Farmhouse on Boxing Day, then heading to Scotts Peak Dam with the other. If anyone needs a lift into either point at this time, let me know and I might be able to help.

Er, I'd say a 'side trip' to Vanishing Falls might be a tad abitious...
from the Farmhouse Creek track you'd be looking at around a week or more return to the falls!

A side trip to Lake Sydney is fine, it's only half a day each way + an extra day if you wanted to do Bobs as well.

15 days for Western + Eastern + Bobs sounds reasonable.

Best to read Chapmans South west Tas guide for estimated times.

umm... listen to the man, in light of the events of the last few days - listen VERY closely.
Don't even consider a side trip to vanishing falls, you are looking at at least a 4 day trip ONE WAY to get there over Bobs Knobs.

15 days to do the complete arthurs traverse is a reasonable period if you are fit and experienced, but I don't think you'll have much time left for side trips, particularly if you get a few days of crud which is almost guaranteed at that time of the year.

Sweet mercy... People really think walking in Tasmania is that easy? Surely Chapman must be to blame for this, he really doesnt explain just HOW HARD some of these walks are....

Yep, now listen to scrub master very carefully - he has been to the Falls, I haven't;
please walk within your limits / experience / capabilities & don't become another rescue statistic.

Ah, sorry guys, was never going to go all the way to vanishing falls. Just interested in comments I'd get considering the rant discussion going on since yesterday's news. Having been off-track in SW before, I understand how quickly you can slow down.

No, found out about this in the forum, I was interested to see how he went up new river.

Not too much to say, really, except perhaps wait and see what breminator has to say. He asked the right questions, people gave the right answers, really, but it was a little "good luck but it might be hard" at the start, and "I told you so" at the end from some people. Nice to see a strong "don't do that!" responce after my post

Personally, I think good on him. The plan seemed reasonable enough, and others agreed before hand. I don't think the argument should go anywhere near the cost of rescues etc on this occasion. At least he wasn't a politician, on his own, in the snow, not mentioning anyone in particular

Actually scratch there were a few people who tried to mention to Brem he may have been taking on a bit too much too soon, but how do you say more without being offensive, maybe we should have been a bit more offensive.
