Access to Overnight Walks in Tarkine

I made a trip to Corinna Village. Took the barge to go across the Pieman River and camped there one night. It rained at night and again in the morning. I would suggest the Whyte River walk that takes about one and a half hours, but offers stunning views . Information on Overnight walks in the area is very limited. The written info I collected at home are better than the one given. Due to the weather and getaway on a budget, I was lack of interest in investigations. However, I do believe that it is the possibility to do so via negotiation with The Arcadia to take you to The Pieman River mouth where you could spend few days or a week on walking (mainly coastal walks). Will try at next visit.

Information on Overnight walks in the area is very limited.

I just checked TALIS and Bob Brown's Tarkine Trails book is available at a number of libraries around the state. This gives a number of overnight walk suggestions for people who are experienced in remote extended off-track walking.

Also, the Tarkine National Coalition has taped a superb 6 day walk through the northern parts of the Savage River National Park. The only hitch is that it starts at Farquhars Bridge and ends at Hilder Bridge. Both of these have been washed away by floods.

A commercial company, Tarkine Trails, operates on this walk using rafts to ferry walkers and their gear over the river.

Thanks for the info about the walks. I have found no info on extended walks but I did find a fair bit of info at the Waratah-Wynyard Council site about walks in the area.

We spent a few nights at Corinna just after last Christmas - quite a nice place (if you can excuse the barge punting across the river at all daylight hours).
Camping is cheap and cheerful (around $10 per night), but facilities are pretty basic (a lumpy patch of grass, the odd pet snake and long-drop loos). Most of the development there appears to be for those hiring the eco-self-contained-unit style thing (which look nice, but pricy). Nice place however for a base-camp - we did a bit of driving round to Zeehan, Granville Harbour, Trial Harbour etc. We didn't get the chance to venture further north (Arthur River and Tarkine flavoured bits in-between) - suppose that will be for another day.

Nice place to go looking for nice stands of Huon Pine, Myrtle and Leatherwood - not to mention the reflections off the Pieman river early in the morning or at sunset

i had a trip down the west coast a couple of years back, staying in an old house opposite the shop at Corinna

Interesting was the solar power supply for the "town", and the sat-phone at the shop.Real backwoods stuff.

There is a nice hour or so walk to the Whyte River which starts just upstream of the punt.Some gold was extracted from the Whyte in years gone by.

There is also the Arcadia cruise on the Pieman which although good, I think lags behind the Arthur River cruise which is excellent.

Corinna does make an excellent base to explore the western explore and other places such as Balfour

I've just been trying to research this! Well Tarkine Falls anyways.. Is this a public track or do I strictly have to be with Tarkine Trails? Been trying to ring TNC but they won't answer lol...

I believe that most of the tracks are on public land so you could hardly be stopped from using them, whoever made them. I think they also use a lot of old 4WD tracks which were put in a long time ago. But this is only my understanding, maybe others know something different?
