Connoisseurs Peak Bagging List

Tue 08 Feb, 2011 8:46 am

Anyone wanting a more 'achieveable' list of Tasmanias 'classic' peaks can find a link to that list here (thanks to Allan for re-invigorating this web site):

http://www.wildtigertasmania.com/2011/01/connoisseurs-peak-bagging-list.html

This list was developed to feature the best of the HWC's full Peak Bagging List, and with only 125 peaks as opposed to 466 peaks it is a lot less daunting;
having said that, it does feature some very tough trips in very remote country. The selection is probably debatable as these thing always are, but with the assistance of Paul Geeves (second only person to finish the full HWC Peak Bagging list) it is probably a fair representation.

Anyone wanting the excel file, please feel free to PM me with your emaiol address & I will forward it on.

Enjoy :D

Stu.

Or follow the link to the other link, then at the top, click on File - and download as...

What does P1, P2 and P3 mean?

Where's the best place to download a correct, updated list of all of em?

I like the reduced list - possibly because it is all beyond me anyway being an interstater. [My 80 points reduce to 59]
I believe the P1, P2 & P3 columns relate to the changing points applied over various revisions of the list - see the points for Geryon Nth & Sth as key illustrations of this.

I also note a comment on the other site re Mt Huxley having the best views ever - has anyone been up there and had a look?

Thats correct Brian, there have been 3 versions of the list over the years.
I haven't been up Huxley, but had views to & over it from the Jukes area recently.
The Jukes range is magnificent & so perhaps out muscles it's lower neighbour?
It probably also shares the similar views of Lake Burbury etc. with the enhancement of broader views south & west.
It's always going to be a bit personal picking 'favourites'.

Hmmmm.... 63 for me 18 peaks..... seems i am missing a few atm..... guess that makes me "slow bugger extrodinaire" huh?
been past so many and yet not up too many - easier if i could count them too!

Shouldn't this be under "Tasmania"?

143 for me, 48 peaks... it's a great list. There's virtually no rubbish on it. So much to do! Actually it points out how many *&%$#! peaks I've done off the full list. :(

Atleast you are getting your points quite efficeintly (3.5 points per peak) compared to Oll at (2.9 points per peak).

LOL, so my reputation precedes me then? Let''s just say there are a number of high-pointed peaks I've decided are not on my agenda.

When you say 'classics' what defines a classic?

Ever seen Fedder??

Ever seen Snow Hill??

Re: Connoisseurs Peak Bagging List

Tue 23 Aug, 2011 7:25 pm

Yeah of course like Fedder, Geryon, PB and Anne but why stuff like Snow Hill?

Re: Connoisseurs Peak Bagging List

Tue 23 Aug, 2011 7:27 pm

Hahaha no not Snow Hill... definately not Snow Hill.

Well, a list is a list. They are just the best 125 peaks. You gotta draw the line somewhere and some have to miss out.

Re: Connoisseurs Peak Bagging List

I'm not talking about the list, I'm talking about when people on this site randomly call things like Murchy or Massif a classic and wondering what makes something a classic

Get out there and do more walks and see for yourself!!!!!!!

I'm looking forward to the Jubilees this weekend thanks to all your info

Pleasure!! Anytime. I have alot of screen shots like that if you ever need.

Good luck, get an early start. Took us just over 5 hrs to do the return trip, but it took another group recently 9 hrs.

I'm really quite fit but not so experienced on the navigation. I'm thinking the tagged section might be slow on the way back but with visibility I could easliy make fast progress atop the range. Im hoping for about 6hrs but will be allowing for more time.

Re: Connoisseurs Peak Bagging List

Tue 23 Aug, 2011 8:08 pm

The tagged section really isnt very long. Only goes for a k or so. Then it's all off track. Once on Mt Jubilee navigation is very easy though.

'classic' is the word you use to encourage your mate to go on a trip you found 'epic'.

Re: Connoisseurs Peak Bagging List

Tue 23 Aug, 2011 8:50 pm

In my world - epic = something that seemed unrealistic, but somehow you managed to pull it off. Classic = something that someone else recommended you do
