Mt Pearson - NE Coast - Access & Camping?

Thu 01 Dec, 2011 4:45 pm

Hi all,

Planning to do some rock climbing / bouldering around Mt Pearson and was wondering if anyone had details on access, parking for vehicles, tracks and camping... also, I am assuming no water up there?

Campsites can be a decent walk from parking. We plan on staying around 6 days and wont mind walking in for a few hours if we need to! :)

Cheers, Erin 8)

Erin, I am spending xmas at Binalong Bay and would be happy to check it out for you :) I will need a walk to get rid of some of the excess food and alcohol I am likely to eat and drink!

G'day Erin,

I went for a 4WD in the tracks around there last year, saw a nice campsite that would be accessable via 2WD if you have a poke about, there was a small lake or lagoon there, not sure what the water would be like though...

Cheers :)

Billshep posted this a couple of years ago, if hes still active on this forum perhaps he can help with more info.

"The walk up Mt Pearson is worth doing, especially in October when rock orchids festoon the granite boulders. There is a track opposite Cosy Corner South which leads to the Pearson ridge, and another off Reid's Road near a dam. The area was burned out a couple of years ago."

Yes the easiest access is from Reids Road connecting Binalong to Priory. There is an unmarked track about halfway along Reid's Road leading to the dam which is usually accessible by 2wd. camping and water at the dam area.
Cross the dam wall or the creek above the dam and try to find a taped route leading up the ridges. The route was taped all the way to Pearson but the fire may have destroyed marking.
I re taped part of the route up from Cosy Corner which is another option.
Lots of rocks to scramble on on both routes. Watch out for the rock orchids, they are in flower in spring.
