can anyone tell me if you park you car at the balfour walking track and do the 2 and a half hour walk. does this
take you to the old cemetry and how far from that do tou need to go to find the old township.
and are there mine shafts you need to be carefull of and are there any old slag heaps you can checkout.
also if you wanted to is there some where to pitch a tent for a day or two at balfour

Cheers Simmo

and is it well worth the walk just to check out the history and have a fossic around and maybe camp a night if possable.

Simmo, if you go down the western explorer till you get to an airstrip on the left, you will find a road going into Balfour.

Go in about 500 to 700m then turn right and follow the road for a bit, up over a steep little hill then back around to the left for a bit till you find an old blackwood tree, with a sign indicating the track to the cemetry. About 10-15min easy walk.

Good luck with it.

Hi Simmo.

I cover the walk in you photo here:
http://www.touringtasmania.info/balfour_track.htm

As I mention, no where near Balfour.

As FF says, to get to Balfour you head down the western Explorer for a few kms from the Rebecca Link Road. Take the second turn left from meory. There was a large pool of water to negotiate a hundred metres along the road. Further on the foad sidles down a ridge and crosses a creek. There is then a very steep hill to negotiate. I could not get traction so I tried the road off to the right. The road went around the hill. Managed to get into Balfour in my little Corolla hatch OK.
