Can I take my dog with me backpacking in Tas? I guess it isnt strictly allowed in national parks but does it go on?
Out of interest my dog does not attach wildlife

I prefer to set my dogs on tramps in Tasmania

Taking dogs into National Parks is a massive NO, if I saw you I would dob you into Parks and Wildlife and you would hopefully be fined! There are plenty of day walks in NE and NW Tasmania that you can bring your dog, I have.
*i think it is more about the harmful disease etc that dogs can bring into National Parks rather than the fact they chase wildlife. I am not saying your dog is flea ridden, we humans have brought our own diseases into these remote areas and passed them on to the wildlife!

There's all the state forest areas, dogs ok untill "peace" talks are sorted, when things may well be different (on paper at least).

Search the forums. There's an old topic somewhere about the areas you can take you dogs bushwalking in.
PS. (28/8/2012). See
this topic.

Check out the Forestry Tasmania website, they have loads of reserves that are ok for dogs.
If you take your dog to a National Park you will be shot in the town square and your clothes burned.

.I like to walk "au naturelle",.I fell over and landed on a wombat...honest..

Yes, disastrous! It could spread gastro, carry Giardia, leave bed bugs and tromp root rot fungus everywhere. There'll need to be infrastructure, kennels, toilets. It'll get lost and probably practice bushcraft

Next thing there'll be guidebooks in their own language.. what happens when they get all pretentious and start peak bagging

i'm dobbing too
I think you can get a permit for conservation areas?

Has anyone read frogcallor artificial. I like gregs story of taking his dog on the overland track, sleeping in the huts with it, while he was a parky haha. You should try that.

They don't whinge about carrying a heavy load, are very easy to feed and you can dry out their poo and burn it in a heater.

No - I think everyone has headed off to Dog Kennels Regional Reserve!
Ironically, it may well be a place you could take a dog!
