Western Creek Track some local knowledge required

Postby Ent » Tue 04 Sep, 2012 8:41 pm

Hi

I have just done a bit of walking up around Ironstone and noticed when following the river track up Western Creek there was a pad and cairn route crossing the creek reasonably low down. Just curious where that leads to?

Also trying to get a handle on the tracks up that way. You have the Lady Lake Hut / Higgs Track and the Western Creek Loop Track. Are there any other tracks up to the plateau near by? And what would be the nearest.

Cheers

Hi Ent

I have not done it, but believe the side track in the Western Creek track is an alternative parallel deviation, that may go to a lookout point. I was waiting for someone to reply who may have known for sure, but in the absence of this I thought it was better to share my somewhat second-hand knowledge.

There is also Syds track which goes up on to the plateau further east along Westrope Rd.

There is also the track network which starts around Smoko Creek on the southern side if Mother Cummiings. Those tracks are well worth an explore, and the road has recently been repaired making the walk 2km or so shorter each way. I have done a few walks up there recently and would like to do some more (there is a good long day circuit going up Bastion Bluff then Ironstone and back down the Chasm Falls track which I am going to do when the days are longer).

Feel free to PM me if you want to join in.

Hi Clarence

Great info will be in touch. Like the area so looking for ways to keep it fresh and escape routes if the waterways flood.

Cheers
