Camping overnight at DuCane Gap

Postby philm » Sat 03 Nov, 2012 2:04 pm

We are planning a trip from Lake St Clare to WOJ via the Traveller Range. On the first day we will catch the ferry then walk to DuCane gap. If the waether is fine we will climb up to the Traveller Range (Gatepost track) and camp high. If the weather is not good I understand there is a good camp at Campfire Creek near the gap. Can anyone give me the location of this camp via PM? Thanks for any guidance you can provide.

I've camped at Campfire Creek - but not recently. It used to be a good site - I think now it may be a bit bare/eroded? The campsite is where the track crosses Campfire Ck - a little down on the north side of the gap (10 mins down?)

It is a bit bare and eroded but we have considered stopping there on quite a few occasions. You will find a suitable spot there and the water supply is good.

There was once enough bare ground at the creek crossing for 6/8 tents. Mostly back under Bauera now. Why not just bush camp somewhere near the gap (lots of nice pineapple grass.. :) )
