Mt Roland tracks ?

Hello everyone!

I've been told a few months ago that one of the Mt Roland tracks are inaccessible! Is this true?

Any track notes or advice would be much appreciated!

As far as my understanding goes, the O'neils Road track is currently closed.

I've been up via the Kings Road track before, however it does involve some scrambling, on the plateau, and one vertical section, which although relatively easy, would cause a pretty nasty injury if you put a foot wrong.

That said, its the most fun way up in my opinion, and its a beautiful place.

The Kings Rd track is considered "harder" - I've never been up the O'Neils Rd track so I've no idea how it compares, but the KIngs Rd track is definitely a lot of fun.

The Kentish Visitor Information Centre has this to say

The first track, the Mt Roland via Kings Road (Face Track), starts from Kings Road, Claude Road Village off the C136. The track turns into a steep mountain climb. This track is not recommended as it is potentially dangerous, steep and awkward. Walking time takes from three to five hours return.

Not sure where the steep mountain climb is. There is a fair amount of scrambling over rocks but I wouldn't describe it as steep and awkward. Potentially dangerous? It's all relative. I wouldn't class it as such.

Now the weather is warming up, watch out for snakes.

Awkward - well, if you haven't done much bushwalking, or only on easy ground. Or if your knees don't bend enough for the little rock scramble. But i can understand the visitor centre not recommending it for the average tourist.

It's definitely my preferred way up. Views a lot earlier, etc. O'Neills is longer (time and distance), and not as interesting in my mind. Some nice bits, though. I do love Mt Roland

Is O'Neills still closed? If so does anyone know how long it will remain closed for?

They did - and they said, no problem except there's a race this weekend. THe new Mt Roland via O'Neills - (well, I was there a decade ago and it started across private farmland then so it was new to me last Jan) is wonderful, although sedate walkers like myself are going to find it a lot longer than 5 hours. That tourist office is very helpful & they have brochures for Mt Roland and very short Mt Badgery walk - which is lovely if one is travelling through and has only a couple of hours.

I drove past the Mt Claude lookout & stopped to wander up that path for a km or 2 - largely on service roads but the views are fantastic, love to organise a shuttle one day to do that bit.
