Walls of Jerusalem

I ended up doing the Walls , it was a beautiful day. I pushed until The Temple (not the Throne because I wanted views towards Mt Jerusalem and the tarns) and back, it took me 7h45 as a day walk. The walk isn't that hard : navigation is easy, and the rewards (lakes, views etc...) make up for the initial steep sections. It felt like a European walk : a steep climb, no views, and then a beautiful valley, surrounded by lakes and peaks. The track is also beautifully constructed, especially the stone steps leading up the Temple (and I'm guessing it's the same to the Throne). I had a look at the camp site too, large tent platforms, toilets, tank water, and Bennett's Wallabies lurking around, nice place.

I am excited about the fagus -- I saw it as a teenager but did not appreciate it -- so hoping I will be a bit more interested this time
I will put up a report with photos etc.
Walking to the edge of Mersey Valley sounds great It was not on my radar -- Be good to see the world from that side of the valley.

HI all. I am planning a trip into WOJ from the southern end of Lake Rowallen at the end of April
The plan is a fairly lazy 5ish days. Just two of us. One wants to fish and the other photograph.
So thinking of walking via lake Bill to lake Meston - maybe do a circuit back via Chapter Lake
Been looking at huts and lakes in the area - but want to hear what people recommend as good places to stay/fish etc
I am thinking of taking my hammock - would this work OK in these forests???
What huts are worth visiting and avoiding??
Any suggestions on side trips and places to visit?? (PM me any cool secret spots

I have only walked the northern end of the park - so looking forward to this new adventure

Day 1 - Leave car at the carpark off mersey forest road and make our way to DKH - would like to climb one or two of the peaks this day, any suggestions?

Excellent piece by Cannon in yesterday's Saturday Magazine (Mercury) about plans for The Walls. e.g the increase in traffic since OT bookings have begun and the possible effect of mainland school groups that can sometimes turn up in very large numbers.

Further track hardening being planned and consolidation of camping points. etc. etc.

Ah, will have to head to the library. Yes, transference- mad school group rush on the OLT in May.. which I guess is now June.., the walls, the next place..
whatever, what parks have to do is none of our business right, i'm sure these poor public schools (that cant afford summer)- they have been told abt group sizes and had it enforced on them..
