abandoned wolfram mine - forth river

Mon 19 Oct, 2009 3:46 pm

We are thinking about walking into the abandoned wolfram mine on the Forth River - just to see what is there. Which is the best way to access this abandoned site? By walking up the "old" road by the Forth River from the power station or coming in on the Arm River track and coming down from Pelion Hut :?: :? roseart

This topic has some info covering derelict mines, including discussion on Wolfram.
Hope that helps.

Hi Roseart
It would be the scenic route though it's going to take much longer via Pelion. Especially if there are many trees over the track (very likely).

It is 27 kms one way from the power station so its best to drive as far as you can and then probably bike ride/walk the rest.
The lower adit is under water and the next level up is dozed in.There is another one on the zigzag track up the hill but it had a door welded shut on it the last trip I had there.
The old tailings heaps have been leveled out to let nature slowly reclaim them.
