Southport Lagoon - Cruisy off-track overniter
Map: Leprena 25K
One of my fav 'amble about' places. I'd like to continue exploring the area north & east of the new 4WD track with camp by the edge of the lagoon. The bush is mostly open with pleasant open valleys. If we do encounter scrubby bits we'll take it easy. A nice camp out & trip shall be had.
Philosophising, contemplation & photography encouraged. Trip pace cruisy, aiming to do up to 4 hours walking each day. Reasonable fitness, sense of adventure & humour required. Map sketches, trip philosophy & some Southport Lagoon pics at http://www.ahack.org.
Nick, Lee, Adrian, Marcel & Andreas went. Lovely forecast with gale warnings, flood watch for the Huon River and max temps hovering around 9-10C. Left cars near Lune River Railway Station, walked into Southport Lagoon on the new 4WD track. Then off-track in a northerly direction.
Camped early to get out of the gale-force wind gusts and the odd shower.
Luvly afternoon spent in tents - hot cuppas, snoozing, papers & books were the go. Near full moon graced the sky, Lee even saw a moon-rainbow. Wind had mostly gone by the morning, showers much less frequent, even longish spots of sun for breakfast & as we departed. Followed an old partially overgrown vehicle track in a N-NW direction until we met the railway line.
Walked out on the line. Beautiful country in there. Nice camp out had, gotta be good for the soul! I'll do a few more explorations, anyone else interested?Andreas
