Is Pine Valley / Labyrinth area very muddy?

Postby ssloane » Wed 17 Dec, 2014 8:03 am

We're heading in after Christmas. I've done the Sth Coast Track so I have seen mud. How would you rate Pine Valley / Labyrinth in terms of mud?

Thx.

0.5 out of 10 :) i.e. not muddy at all.

What a shame!

Sounds like this is going to be a very popular place over the period as I'll be in the crowd too. 8)

Been watching the weather there and note there's been some regular rains there. Surprised it's very dry.

Sounds like there's going to be some kind of bushwalk.com party going on in that area after xmas... see you there too!

So given that mud is something of a non-issue there at the moment, is there any point in taking gaiters?

Always take gaiters. The recent rain yesterday made the mud come back. The labyrinth is overflowing. Nice view though!

It dries out pretty quickly this time of year. I made two trips to Cuvier about a fortnight apart and on the second the terrain was noticeably drier (even lakeside) despite regular showers during that time.

Decided to do another short side trip to PV hut for last night. The track there is really nice (I came and went via the labyrinth last time). It's not overland highway mudless but fine pretty close.
