South Coast track = how muddy last few years ??

Heading down to the South Coast track in mid January 2017, for those that have been recently how muddy has it been in January the last few years ??

How long since it rained last? This is the only way to answer your question but generally January will be drier than December and possibly not as dry as February.

I walked it earlyish in January 2016 and it was very dry but still the opportunity to engage in mud baths and other squishy fun.

Yep. Last Jan muddy in places but only really noticable on the South Cape Range section. There has been a lot of track work done recently.

I walked it in January this year. As above, there was some mud in places, but generally fairly dry. Think boot deep with the occasional knee deep patch in the muddier sections. There was still water available at all usual places, although it was extremely brackish in parts as the flow was low or non-existent. Temperatures in the low 20s, although the last day was up in the low 30s. We were very lucky, perfect walking weather.

The track is very well defined almost everywhere (although the turnoff to Osmiridium beach was quite muddy and we spent a bit of time trying to locate the track). Lots of boardwalk above the mud. It's narrow, but very effective.

The whole track is amazing.

It doesn't really matter much what it was like the past few years - that is not an indicator what it will be like this year.
The long range forecasts for this year have all been for a wet one, and it's certainly been shaping up that way so far.

Previous few years have been abnormally dry. This has been a very wet winter, and Spring is following suit. All those usually muddy areas that had dried out nicely will now be thoroughly rehydrated.
The South Cape Range is going to be soooooo much FUN!

FWIW, it was moderately to quite wet and muddy when I passed through recently (a month or so ago).

I'd expect it to be rather wet come your walk. It's expected to be a wet October, and after 500 or so people have been over the track it'll be a nice mud slog.

If it's not, that'll be a bonus!
