Hitchhiking to bushwalking destinations

Postby yyhazy » Sat 22 Oct, 2016 10:32 pm

Hey fellas,

I happened to have about a few days off for myself next week, so I plan to use it to do a 2-4 days solo walk here. I don't have a car and I know that I can't depend on public transportation, so I'm planning on hitchhiking, or, possibly getting a ride from someone here on the forum if they happen to be heading the same direction.

Currently I'm looking at the Walls or the Frenchmans Cap. Or possibly the Southwest NP.

I've never walked solo before, but I've completed the Overland Track and the Cap so hopefully I more or less know what I'm dealing with. I however do not have any off-track experience.

Given the above information, is there any walk that you would recommend? It would be great if they can be easily accessed thru hitchhiking. Other than that, any information on hitchhiking in Tassie in general would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance,
Harry

You can rule the Walls out, unless you want to walk for 20km. The road is still closed in there.

As for the southwest, you may get to Maydena pretty easily, but after that it may be difficult to get a lift. Keep in mind that the tracks in the southwest are much harder than both the Overland and Frenchmans. Did you have a particular track in mind?

Personally, I would look at going to the Labyrinth for a few days, or base at Pine Valley and do some day trips. There may be a bit of snow up there at the moment too.
