Camping near Denison Crag

Postby noodle_snacks » Sun 27 Dec, 2009 8:03 am

Denison Crag overlooks Tranquil Tarn and is on the way from Stack's Bluff (on ben lomand). Does anyone know if the terrain is suitable there for pitching a tent in summer?

This general area is quite rocky, on the plateau you would be able to find a suitable nook if the weather is Ok, off the plateau and down the escarpment (inc Tranquil Tarn) is quite scratchy for campsites because of the rockiness.

Might be nice around Storys Creek on the plateau. Or Lake Youl.

There is also a suitable spot to camp at Tranquil Tarn for one or probably two tents on the northern side of the tarn, it's fairly exposed in very windy conditions but not too bad, this campsite depends on the tarns water level being relativly low and it appears to vary in height considerably, the best way to get to it is to keep west of the moraine on the boulder field (as there is thick scrub down to water level on this side) and head almost up to the cliff base then descend down the NW corner into the tarn.
