SCT

Postby Roger » Tue 05 Jan, 2010 2:03 pm

I am walking the South Coast Track again next week. Has anyone done it recently and, if so, can you advise of the current condition of the track ? With the recent rains, are there any areas of the track that are worse than normal ?

Better to be forewarned.

Thanks

Roger

I walked out from Prion Beach after coming off the Southern Ranges in the last few days.

its pretty much as per normal.. muddy.
South Coast Range was almost identical conditions to Jan 09.

Some of the creeks weren't flowing as much - which meant decent water sources weren't as plentiful as I've seen it the past.

I just walked out along the section from Prion Beach to Cockle Creek (last 2-3 days) after coming off the Southern Range. The track is the same as usual. Boggy in patches, but generally in good condition. Water was not plentiful, so fill up when you can.

EDIT: HEY! aljscott!! Stop cutting in on my post! :D

Hi guys, we'll be doing the track in a couple weeks time. What has the weather and the temperatures been like when you were on the track over the last days?

We had squalls, wind, and a bit of drizzle. It's not really very relevant though, you could get anything! :D Just keep an eye on the state forecast leading up to your trip.

You pretty much have to expect squalls, wind, and a bit of drizzle.
Its the South Coast and when the weather blows in off the ocean its reasonable to expect 4 seasons in one day and if you get
a few days of fine weather then consider yourself lucky.
You probably shouldn't make any assumptions based on the forecast.

Daytime walking temperatures are reasonably comfortable, although it was a bit cold in the camp sites and on rest stops when
the squals were blowing through.
