G'day All,
During this period of Electioneering in Tasmania can we keep this Forum free of politics and political opinions please,we will get plenty elsewhere and as Bush Walkers we should be mates regardless of political persuasions IMHO nothing said on this Forum will change any of our voting preferences so lets be apolitical

I sure get sick of hearing about politics, but I'm not going to ban it as such.

While pushing one party or another is rather counter productive now is the time to lobby for bushwalking with each party else our would be political overlords might be lulled into thinking that we can be ignored. The challenge is target the message for each party as the solution to solving a problem of environment damage might be banning walkers, or putting infrastructure in, or a user pay system. What is needed is adequate funding and if anything history has shown the squeaky wheel gets the oil.

As for mud slinging, well even the Lodden is short on that at the moment so lets not fall for stunts staged by a party, its competitor, or the media. Remember the media's role is not only to report but also to sell advertising so sexy stories get pushed rather than more mundane but important issues.

As for political bias, we all have views or should have, or else to quote from a song "if you do not stand for something you will fall for anything" so not a bad idea to state them but of course we have a secret ballot so privacy should be respected if a person for a variety of reasons decides not to be public with them.

Unfortunately politics affects everything and I for one would be interested to hear from politicians what their views are on a few things that affect me as a bushwalker, for instance, funding for Parks, access to various areas of the state, and yes, Forestry issues as they tend to have a huge impact on both access and enjoyment of walking.



I also can't see why we can't stay friends on the forum regardless of our political persuasion anyway - it's a worry if people can't handle a bit of debate without taking offence.

In fairness to Corvus there is a line between debate and mud slinging. Arguing that Parks should be more about wildlife preservation than bush walking is legitimate but spending endless hours on what politician fell face first in the mud on a media circus trip would not be IMHO. Though if that happened i would like to see the pictures posted but that is voyeurism not debate

Trouble with media reporting it is more important if a minister got a free cup of coffee if they visited a hospital rather than if the hospital is running well. I would rather not see this site bogged down in the "dress" debate that wrecked most USA sites for over a year. It was pleasing that a certain "ute" did not have the same effect on this and other sites even though the mainstream media got hung up on it.

Did you ever see a documentary on the Spanish Revolution? The anarchist would have won had they been capable of organising themselves so I suppose it goes to show anarchist result in anarchy Though some travelling in Spain some would argue (that being me) that they actually won or still are waging a guerrilla war with the transport system

The hotel I am at in Phonsavan has some wireless internets. So I am borrowing some. I will miss out on all the promises. I rang up in January and got an official "Excuse not to vote". Which was nice of them. She said they didn't have any polling places in Mongolia.
