"10km South of Federation Peak"

Postby tastrekker » Fri 26 Feb, 2010 2:02 pm

I just read this bit of vintage 'bush rescue reporting' on page 2 of today's Advocate...

"Two people have been airlifted to Hobart... The pair was on the south-east track about 10km south of Federation Peak." (That's almost the entire article - grab your copy to read the rest)

I will forgive them the name of the track as "south coast track" looks very similar to "south east track". The '10km south of Fedder' was the bit that got me. The SCT is about 25km south of Fedder. Ironically, 10km south of Fedder puts you in the middle of the "Forested Hills" which were mentioned in the second article I linked in my post about Thick Scrub. 10km south of Fedder is also very close to the point reached by our Canberra friends a few months back.

Does anyone share my warped sense of 'geographic irony' on this one?

Perhaps they were 10km south east(ish) of federation - that would put them on about Mt Bobs or Bobs Knobs.... No ...the media would have had a field day if that was the case

I can see the headline - Lost on Bobs Knob!
Cheers - Phil

hmmm weird. hate to think what the "forested hills" must look like after seeing the unnamed hills *shudders*
