Lake Petrarch

Postby ILUVSWTAS » Mon 29 Mar, 2010 9:38 am

Hi.
We are walking over Gell onto the Cheyne Range over Easter and looking to camp at Lake Petrarch. Just wondering where the best place to camp is and will we fit 6-8 tents here.

Thanks!

6-8 tents! Haven't you blokes heard of sharing? There is (was 25 years ago) a nice campsite I think at the end of the lake where the Cuvier Valley track reaches it. I remember some idyllic days there. I also think it was fairly roomy, but it would be good to have some more up to date advice for you.

Yup 6-8 tents. See your own post about not wanting to be near any other people after a few days walking as to our reasons!! 1-2 man tents are so light these days anyway. They are probably lighter than when we used to carry old 2 man tents split between 2 people.

Thanks Rachel, I got some info via PM!

I think they like a bit of private tent time...

I think after the last trip with the team I'm not that keen to share my tent again.

LIght weight 2 man tent shared with a mangy wookie for a week = not pleasant!

One reason why I bought a definate 1 person tent... no hairy bears for me.

And 6-8?! Are some people bringing 2 tents? I thought there were only 6 of us going?

In the valley floor NW of Petrarch there is good camping beside a creek. Probably 1k NW of Petrarch. Have fun and watch out for leeches.

Miles of tent spaces at the southern end of Petrach, with lovely sandy beach front and the odd large tiger snake. This is where the track out along the Cuvier starts. My recollection is there are a few spots at north eastern end, where the track down from Byron comes down towards the lake, which would hold a few tents as well but no beach.

Oh good, my memory isn't so faulty after all! I do remember the tiger snakes too, they are not keen on moving off the track.
