Does garmin use GPX files? Google Earth uses KML files, and there's plenty of free tools around to convert between KML and GPX, if that helps.

Maybe try www.easygps.com too - I'm pretty sure it works with the Etrex H.

What area are you looking at - tassie is a big place and I reckon I could clog up your gps with just one mapsource file!

thanks folks...
i was looking at the overland track with the missus... been about 9 years since i've done it now....would like to take the time to explore a few side trips too.. Also would like to do Mt Anne again - but i heard they have "renovated" the loo and scrapped the best view on the can in the southern hemisphere in the process :-( still a great weekender walk tho...
but i can store other tracks on the pc for a "less rainy day" or two ;-)
i should be back down that way after christmas - this time for good.... been livin away from tassie too long now. Just about finished the Bibbulmun track in WA at the moment...
thanks again for your help and offers.

I can supply plenty in Oziexplorer format which you can convert to garmin with GPSbabel.

The Overland track files are available on the following website - it has the huts and the full track file (incorrectly listed as points on the website)

THanks for the link, stepbystep.

Liam,

I use EasyGPS also, and GPSTrackmaker to edit tracks- type in a waypoint from google earth and transfer to the eTrex. uses a *.gpx file to transfer. Not a problem at all.

You can register at http://www.everytrail.com and download gpx files of a few tracks. Without looking, I'm positive that the overland track would be there. Better than waypoints, this site has the trail in case of severe directional misorientation. (I haven't had to use it yet but it never hurts to be prepared - I only use a GPS as a backup in fog/rain, when it's not the most reliable anyway)

Edit: http://www.everytrail.com/destination/c ... l-park/map

Cheers,

eddie

It's not bad but i prefer the elevation tools and bit you get with sharemyroutes.com
my GPS (garmin etrex H) is very basic -also runs on AA and waterproof which i like... but i dont get the elevation profiles on it - this site works em out for me when i upload tracks which is kinda cool ;)
